A terrarium is a miniature indoor garden inside a glass container. The plants are low maintenance and are perfect for people who don’t have a green thumb or who don’t have time to care for a garden. You can place a wide variety of plants inside glass containers. A terrarium adds a bit of outdoor beauty and peace to desks, tables or any place where space is limited.
I bought miniature terrarium tools to use inside my miniature garden….so much fun! I picked a nice 8″ diameter glass container….although you can buy one with a lid. The size of the glass is up to you. At the Philadelphia Flower Show I saw huge miniature gardens. Some people ad miniature gnomes or fairies for decoration.Best to use small plants that don’t grow big. Trimming is allowed…there are no rules.
The first layer on the bottom of the bowl is stones for drainage. Next comes peat moss soil to plant the roots in. Lastly comes a little moss to place around all plants. Find a nice window for some filtered light part of the day. Place you terrarium there. Even a lazy person can handle this project….so rewarding!
Here is a photo of my project I just created-
