What is my Mothers Day flower? It would have to be the most outrageously beautiful blooming perennial of all time….the peony. Its a perennial that may live longer than you do—some have been known to thrive for 100 years. I know the bush at my mothers has been going strong for many years. Peonies take your breath away every spring. They like full sun and well-drained soil. Peonies even like cold winters, because they need chilling for bud formation.

If you are having problems bringing inside ants on your peony after you cut a few, try laying them on the ground to let the lil ants march away. A co-worker claims it works 🙂

I love the flower so much I had them flown in for my wedding bouquet!  They can be expensive to buy. Growing them is a better alternative. Light pink is my favorite.DSCN2872

  1. Patti—loving your blog—we always had a peony bush by the stone wall. Have a Happy Mother’s Day—–Aunt Nancy
